Children under 18 make up 60 percent of the 13,000 people experiencing family homelessness here in Massachusetts, and many do not have access to their own beds when transitioning from shelters to new residencies. Studies find that children who do not have access to their own bed or sleeping space experience greater challenges in school, issues with lower self-esteem, and underdeveloped social-emotional skills.
This holiday season, you can provide a child with a bed of their own through the Boston Cares Bed Project. The Bed Project offers a fun, hands on experience building high-quality bed frames for homeless and low-income families, and children in foster care. Participation in the Holiday Bed Build is $150/person, which covers bed build costs and supports Boston Cares year-round volunteer initiatives. Create a team with your colleagues, family or friends or come on your own!
