Matthew Verney has been a volunteer with Boston Cares since October of 2012. In that time he has dedicated over 50 hours to volunteering, while also juggling a full-time job as a nurse in an operating room at the South Shore.

Matt was nominated for this month’s Volunteer Spotlight by one Boston Cares Volunteer Leader who says, ”Matt is a dedicated regular at New England Center for Homeless Veterans, where he is extremely competent and willing to help out wherever needed. He’s a favorite with the staff as well as with the shelter clients. He’s unflappable, friendly, and cares enough to get the job done right. In short, Matt makes being a good volunteer look easy.”

He says the New England Center for Homeless Veterans is his favorite place to volunteer, claiming: “Taking care of our veterans is very important to me, it is a great way to thank them for their service.”

In addition to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, Matthew has also volunteered at:

  • Pine Street Inn
  • Rosie’s Place
  • Friday Night Supper Program
  • St. Francis house

Thank you, Matt for your commitment to volunteer service through Boston Cares!
