Building Language, Building Community: ESOL Tutoring Highlights & Tools

As we close out the program year, we want to take a moment to pause and say a heartfelt thank you to all of our amazing volunteer ESOL tutors.

Thank you for showing up in ways that matter, bringing along your patience, creativity and your care for our immigrant communities. Your impact will ripple beyond the classroom; from helping someone write their first email in English to boosting their confidence, your support helps build bridges to opportunity and connection when it is most needed.

A Year of Impact

This year, 113 Allies volunteers generously gave their time and energy to support learners across 14 partner sites. Together, you logged 1,521 hours of service —although we know the real number is likely even higher!

“I’m impressed by the students, who show up every time to class and it is great to see students move up levels or start professional training programs”

–Allies for Immigrants ESOL Tutor

We hope you know that your service goes beyond language learning: you help strengthen communities, build trust, and expand opportunities for many individuals and families.

Thank you for being part of this work!

Hear It from Our Students

The most powerful way to understand your impact is through the voices of the people you serve. Visit English for New Bostonians’ Student Stories page to read reflections from learners who’ve built skills and confidence – often while balancing jobs, family, and so much more.

Their stories are a reminder of the resilience and strength within our communities – and of the power of simply showing up with care and encouragement.

Helpful Resources

Even while classes pause for the summer, there are plenty of ways to keep learning, supporting, and reflecting on what it means to be an ally and advocate. Below are a few resources we recommend:

Keep Volunteering This Summer

If you’re looking for ways to stay involved while our classes are on hold, check out Boston Cares’ Volunteer Calendar. There are opportunities throughout the summer to serve local nonprofits, support one-time events, or get involved in projects that align with your interests.

Summer is also a great time to try something new, explore a different neighborhood in Boston, or invite a friend to join you in volunteering!

Thank You

From the bottom of our hearts: thank you for your time, your dedication, and your belief in our learners. The work you do is not always easy – but it is deeply meaningful, and it truly changes lives.

Watch this short video we made to say “thank you!”

We’re honored to have you as part of the Allies for Immigrants community and hope you’ll stay connected, whether through volunteering, learning, or simply keeping in touch.

Wishing you a restful, joyful summer – and we can’t wait to work with you again soon!

With gratitude,

Your Allies For Immigrants Team
