Day after day, the volunteers of Boston Cares, a small army of dedicated individuals, spread out across the city, engaging in work that elevates the standards of living for their fellow citizens. They do it quietly, and with great humility. We are very proud to say that we are able to offer 200+ volunteer opportunities every month. What isn’t said often enough is the fact that, at each one of those projects, are between five and ten volunteers taking time out of their busy lives and reinvesting it in their communities. If that sounds small scale, it shouldn’t. Last year, Boston Cares volunteers completed nearly 72,000 hours of service combined- put into a dollar amount, that’s a value of over $2,000,000 going back into the community.*
This Sunday marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week 2018 and although our volunteers go about their work quietly, we plan on shouting their praises from the rooftops! During this week, we challenge you to go out and find some flexible volunteering opportunities of your own and, most importantly, make sure you thank those you know who volunteer their time and service.
A celebration of volunteers would be nothing without a party and so we’d also like to invite you to join us at our National Volunteer Week Social and Fundraiser at the Flatbread Company in Davis Square, Somerville on April 17th! Stop by for some delicious pizza and perhaps a little bowling and allow us to honor all the good work that you do. RSVP Here!
