Volunteer on Family Volunteer Day!

Looking for a fun, rewarding way to bring your family together as we kick off this holiday season? Look no further than Family Volunteer Day!

good families working 2Family Volunteer Day celebrates the power of families who work together to support their communities and neighborhoods. Volunteering is a wonderful way for kids and adults to make new friends, develop compassion for their neighbors, and even pick up a new skill or two! Volunteering as a family is a productive way to spend time together while instilling the importance of service in your children. It can benefit you and your family as much as the cause you choose the help!

Family Volunteer Day will take place on Saturday, November 18th from 10:00am-12:00pm. Boston Cares volunteers will join others throughout the country giving back on this signature Points of Light day of service, powered by generationOn.

This year, volunteers will be creating fun and informative tools to assist local immigrants learning English and prepping for citizenship exams!

Volunteers will be working on a variety of projects during the day, including:

  • Lap Desks:  a sturdy, portable, writing surface with a whiteboard that can be used for at-home study or as a classroom tool.
  • Practice Journals: journals that will provide learners with a space for notes, writing prompts, and other learning exercises to assist with their classes.
  • Conversational Jenga Games: a fun and creative tool used to spark conversation among volunteer-run ESOL conversation groups.

All items created will be donated to ESOL learning organizations through our partnership with English for New Bostonians!

This volunteer event is open to youth as young as 5 and for groups up to 15 people. This is also a terrific opportunity for not only families but college groups, sports teams, or other community groups to volunteer together! No Boston Cares orientation is needed.

Family Volunteer Day is powered by generationOn and sponsored by The Walt Disney Company.  Event space has been generously donated by our friends at the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 4.
