Hurricane Sandy Update: Important Notice to Boston Cares Volunteers

Boston Cares and our agency partners is heeding the warnings of state and city government by canceling all regularly scheduled service projects for Monday, October 29. We are carefully watching the situation and will make decisions regarding Tuesday’s service projects in conjunction with our agency partners. Check back here for updates.
To support the needs of our community, Boston Cares is partnering with both the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Massachusetts VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster). Currently, Boston Cares volunteers are supporting in the MEMA Bunker by staffing phone lines for the Emergency Services Function 15 (ESF15) – the line dedicated to volunteers and donations.
As the storm progresses we are monitoring other ways in which Boston Cares and our volunteers can support the response and recovery, updates and opportunities will be posted here and to our Facebook page.
*Volunteers SHOULD NOT self-activate during or after the storm for their own safety and to allow emergency responders and disaster management agencies to best address the most immediate needs.*
If you are affected by the storm, Mass 211 provides resources by dialing 2-1-1 from any phone, or

The American Red Cross is providing shelters and other support services, which can be reached by dialing 800-RED-CROSS.
