On MLK Day 2015, Boston Cares will partner with Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Target, the Mass. Service Alliance, AmeriCorps, Playworks and others to engage more than 500 volunteers of all ages, at Madison Park High School.  “I have a dream”-themed projects will benefit 1,200 children and seniors, with a special focus on supporting youth through healthy bedtime activities and getting a good night’s sleep.  Volunteers will launch stage two of the Bed Project — twin beds. In 2014, Boston Cares volunteers built more than 550 toddler beds for children transitioning from shelters to housing.  Other projects are building lap desks that kids can work on while in bed, crafting bedtime journals for kids to write their thoughts, and dream catchers to hang by the bed for inspiration.  New this year will be a Family Zone organized in partnership with Playworks Massachusetts.  Here, young children will make Valentines for homebound seniors; learn about Dr. King’s messages of peace and unity; and engage in group activities that promote inclusion.
